Active ingredient: albendazole

Albendazole should be taken with food.

The oral bioavailability of albendazole increases when administered with a high fat meal, as evidenced by increased plasma concentration (up to 5 times more, on average) compared to fasting.

In one study, the AUC was increased 9.4 times by the effect of a fatty meal and 3.1 times by grapefruit juice.

Several mechanisms may be involved in the growth and bioavailability of albendazole:

1. The proper administration of fatty foods or grapefruit
2. Stimulation of gastric acid secretion, as the absorption of albendazole is probably pH dependent, which adds to increased contact time with the stomach acid .
3. A possible stimulation of secretion of bile salts.
