Active ingredient: moxifloxacin
Moxifloxacin administered orally is well absorbed through the digestive tract, with an absolute bioavailability of 90%. Co-administration with a fatty meal does not affect appreciably absorption of this drug.
A clinical trial in 18 healthy volunteers showed no significant differences in the main pharmacokinetic parameters after a high-fat breakfast compared to fasting, being almost identical the AUC and elimination half-life before or after a meal.
The geometric mean of Cmax decreased slightly administering the drug after eating (2.5 mg / L vs 2.8 mg / L), while the Tmax was comparatively higher in patients after eating a fatty meal (2.5 h vs 1 h). The study's authors conclude that absorption of moxifloxacin seems delayed slightly by the effect of food.
