Active ingredient: zonisamide

After administering to fasted patients a dose of 200 or 400 mg of zonisamide, peak plasma concentration is reached between 2 and 6 hours after taking the drug in healthy volunteers. When stomach contains food, Cmax is delayed slightly, reaching its peak four to six hours after taking the drug, but bioavailability remains unchanged. For this reason, the drug can be taken before, during or after meals.

According to results of some experimental studies, chronic administration of caffeine decreases the brain concentration of zonisamide, which could result in decrease of anticonvulsant effects [1]. This effect has not been proven in human studies, although it seems prudent to refrain from the use of this substance, not only because its effect facilitator of seizures, but also by the risk of reduction of anticonvulsant effect of zonisamide.
