There is very little published literature on the use of this medicine during breastfeeding, so it is preferable to use another antipsychotic. There is insufficient experience to determine the potential adverse effects on the baby.
Although it is known that this drug has less effect on prolactin than classical antipsychotics, have been published, at least, two cases of galactorrhea in patients receiving aripiprazole.
Warning of the manufacturer:
Aripiprazole is excreted in milk of treated rats during lactation. It is not known whether aripiprazole is excreted in human milk. Should advise patients not to breast feed if they are taking aripiprazole.
