Usual maternal doses (up to a maximum of 1 gram) of cephalexin reach a peak concentration in breast milk discrete (from 0.24 to 0.85 mg / L) and so, the drug can be considered acceptable for its use during the breastfeeding.

Warning of the manufacturer:

Excretion of cephalexin through breast milk increases during the four consecutive hours to a single dose of 500 mg. Drug concentration reaches a peak maximum of 4 mcg/ml, decreasing gradually until disappear after eight hours of administration. Therefore, cephalexin should be administered with caution in nursing women.
