Recommendations

This antibiotic has little information about its use in lactating women. According to published studies, fosfomycin reaches low concentrations in milk, so it probably does not could cause adverse effects to the baby, at usual doses. However, it is preferable to use an alternative drug if their use is not essential. Otherwise, there is no reason to stop breastfeeding, but should be monitored for possible occurrence of gastrointestinal disorders (oral or anal candidiasis, diarrhea, etc..).

Warning of the manufacturer:

Animal studies have shown no teratogenic effects but it is not known the possible effect of fosfomycin in pregnant women. A small amount of fosfomycin passes into breast milk.
