Recommendations

Indomethacin is listed as compatible with breastfeeding.

Published data on the use of this drug during breastfeeding are scarce, although there were no adverse effects associated with their use, except for one case of convulsions in an infant whose mother ingested a dose of 200 mg / day, initially attributed to the drug, but later was assessed as highly unlikely the relationship.

Unchanged amount of drug that passes the baby is modest (0.5% of the maternal dose), but were not evaluated quantities of metabolites of indomethacin that can be swallowed by the infant, with the same pharmacological effect.

Warning of the manufacturer:

According to available information, the type of anti-inflammatory indomethacin can be detected in breast milk. These drugs, when possible, should be avoided during breastfeeding.
