To many experts, the norfloxacin is acceptable for use in breastfeeding women. In light of the currently available data, including both norfloxacin as quinolones in general, these medicines seem to have low risk of adverse effects in infants at short term.

However, only a few observations have been published on the use of norfloxacin in lactation, which forces to be cautious and choice another drug of similar therapeutic properties. Other quinolones, such as ciprofloxacin, are considered compatible with breastfeeding.

Warning of the manufacturer:

Norfloxacin is excreted in breast milk, and also appears in the umbilical cord and amniotic fluid.
