Recommendations

No information is available about the use of rabeprazole during breastfeeding, so it is preferable to use an alternative medication.

It is noteworthy that rabeprazole is a prodrug which is activated at any pH, behaving differently than other inhibitors of proton pump which is activated only at acid pH, which reinforces the necessary caution in the absence of sufficient clinical documentation about this substance regarding breastfeeding.

Warning of the manufacturer:

It is unknown whether rabeprazole sodium is excreted in breast milk. No studies have been conducted in breastfeeding women. However, has been detected the presence of rabeprazole sodium in rat mammary secretions. This medicine should not be used, therefore, during lactation.
