Recommendations

The information available about the use of trazodone during breastfeeding is reduced to a few observations with few patients and some case report, so data can not be extrapolated to the population as a whole. Probably dose not exceeding 100 mg/day did not cause disorders in infants, especially beyond the neonatal period.

There are no known adverse reactions to this medication in the baby or the secretion of milk, although its potential effect in a given case is equally of unknown relevance.

Warning of the manufacturer:

Trazodone and its metabolites have been detected in the milk of laboratory animals, suggesting that the drug may pass into breast milk. If necessary, you can administer the drug to the nursing mother, although it should be extremely vigilant about the evolution of the baby for possible adverse effects.
