Indications and usage ▲

Telmisartan is a drug belonging to the group of antagonists of angiotensin II receptors. This is a natural substance which causes a narrowing of blood vessels, resulting in an increased blood pressure. The active ingredient telmisartan counteracts the effect of angiotensin II, allowing the arteries to relax, thereby reducing blood pressure.

This medicine is used in adult patients for treating essential hypertension, ie, without cause to explain it.

Telmisartan It is also indicated in adult to prevent cardiovascular problems and reduce morbidity in patients with prior cardiovascular disease or diabetes.

The safety of use and effectiveness in children are not well established.

Before taking the drug ▲

Do not use telmisartan

If you are allergic (hypersensitive) to telmisartan or any of the other ingredients of the medicinal product prescribed to you. If you think may be allergic, ask your doctor.

Allergy symptoms may include:

- Asthma attacks with shortness of breath, audible wheezing or rapid breathing.
- More or less sudden swelling of the face, lips, tongue or elsewhere in the body. It is especially critical if it affects the vocal cords.

- If you have a high potassium blood concentration
- If you have diabetes mellitus.

If you must undergo surgery, tell your doctor if you are treated with telmisartan.

Ethnic differences: As with other similar drugs, telmisartan may be less effective in treating black patients.

Taking other medicines

Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking or have recently taken any other medicines, including herbal products or drugs obtained without a prescription.

Perhaps, your doctor may need to change the dosage of any medications you take simultaneously with telmisartan, especially in the case of:

- Drugs containing lithium carbonate, medicine used for the treatment of depression and bipolar disorder

Serious side effects that require immediate medical attention:
