Cinnarizine helps fight the symptoms caused by balance disorders or movement (dizziness, motion sickness).
This medicine is used to:
- Controlling the dizziness when traveling in vehicles (motion sickness)
- In problems caused by balance disorders such as Meniere's disease.
In these cases, when the patient presents:
- Vertigo
- Tinnitus (ear noise)
- Nausea and/or vomiting
This medicine is for use in adults and children over five years.
Medizzine recommends consulting your doctor if you are unsure (or you do not know) why you have been given cinnarizine.
Other ingredients of available commercial presentations:
Both 1 ml oral drops or a capsule contain 75 mg cinnarizine. The other components of the capsules include lactose monohydrate, maize starch, talc, povidone, and magnesium stearate.
Warning:

Do not use cinnarizine
If you are allergic (hypersensitive) to cinnarizine or any of the other ingredients of the medicinal product prescribed to you. If you think may be allergic, ask your doctor.
Allergy symptoms may include:
- Asthma attacks with shortness of breath, audible wheezing or rapid breathing.
- More or less sudden swelling of the face, lips, tongue or elsewhere in the body. It is especially critical if it affects the vocal cords.
- Hives, itching, rash
- Anaphylactic shock (loss of consciousness, paleness, sweating, etc.).
Also, you should not take this medicine:
If the patient has less than 5 years
Take special care with cinnarizine
Tell your doctor if you suffer:
- Parkinson's disease
- Any disorder of the liver or kidney
- A rare blood disease called porphyria
In the case of doubt, consult your doctor.
Taking other medicines
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking or have recently taken any other medicines, including herbal products or drugs obtained without a prescription.
In particular, discuss with your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking:
- medicines for anxiety disorders
- Medicines for sleep disorders
- Medicines for relieving pain
- Medicines for depression.
Tell your doctor before taking cinnarizine if you are taking any of above-mentioned medication.
Use with food and beverages
Cinnarizine should be taken preferably after a meal.
This medicine may make you sleepy. Alcohol can worsen this symptom.
Special physiological situations
Pregnancy and lactation:
Always consult your doctor or pharmacist before taking any medicine during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
Pregnancy:
If you are pregnant, think you may be pregnant or plan to become pregnant do not take this medicine.
lactation:
This medicine should not be taken during breastfeeding.
Children:
Do not use in children under 5 years
Driving and using machines
This medicine may make you feel sleepy. If this happens, do not drive or operate potentially dangerous machinery.

Do not take more than prescribed by your doctor. Take the drug after a meal.
75 mg capsules are not suitable for most children. In some countries are marketed 15 mg tablets, which can be administered if the patient has difficulties with swallowing the capsules.
Do not use in children under 5 years
Dose for motion sickness (travel sickness vehicles)
Adults and children over 12 years:
30 mg two hours before travel, followed by 15 mg every 8 hours for the journey.
Children 5 to 12 years:
15 mg two hours before the trip, followed by 7.5 mg every 8 hours for the trip.
Dosage for balance disorders
Adults and children over 12 years:
30 mg every 8 hours
Children 5 to 12 years:
15 mg every 8 hours

Like all medicines, cinnarizine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
The frequency of side effects is classified into:
Very common: affect 1 out of 1-10 patients
Common: affect 1 out of 10-100 patients
Uncommon: affect 1 out of 100-1.000 patients
Rare: affect 1 out of 1.000-10.000 patients
Very Rare: affect less than 1 in 10,000 patients
Incidence not known: Can not be established the true incidence from the available data
Stop taking cinnarizine and report these to your doctor if you notice or suspect that you suffer any of the following serious side effects:
- Facial or throat swelling,
- Hives, urticaria,
- Irritation, redness or blistering of the skin.
These may be signs of an allergic reaction, that occurs in a small number of patients.
The occurrence of extrapyramidal reactions (involuntary muscle movements of the face, neck, and tongue), associated or not with muscle rigidity, tremor, difficulty staying still, clumsiness, hypersalivation, and other signs.
This only happens in a small number of patients, especially the elderly, who take the drug for a long time.
If these symptoms occur, discontinue treatment and notify your doctor immediately.
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you notice any of the following effects:
- Drowsiness,
- Stomach discomfort or indigestion
- Headaches
- Dry Mouth,
- Increased sweating,
After taking the drug for a long time may occur:
- Weight gain,
- Itchy bumps on the skin, sometimes with mouth ulcers
- Rash
- Yellowing of the skin or conjunctiva (jaundice).
