Indications and usage     

This active ingredient is classified in the group of antidepressants but also has sedative effects. Therefore, this medicine is indicated for the symptomatic treatment of depressive states, associated or not with anxiety, which often is added to these states.

Important information     

This medicine may contain lactose. If your doctor has told you to suffer an intolerance to certain sugars, consult him before taking it.

This medicine may contain yellow-orange dye (sunset yellow) and/or cochineal red A dye. In some patients, these excipients can cause allergic reactions such as asthma, especially in patients who are allergic to aspirin and related substances.

Do not use trazodone

If you are allergic (hypersensitive) to trazodone or any of the other ingredients of the medicinal product prescribed to you. If you think may be allergic, ask your doctor.

Allergy symptoms may include:

- Asthma attacks with shortness of breath, audible wheezing or rapid breathing.
- More or less sudden swelling of the face, lips, tongue or elsewhere in the body. It is especially critical if it affects the vocal cords.
- Hives, itching, rash
- Anaphylactic shock (loss of consciousness, paleness, sweating, etc.).

Nor you should take this medicine:

- If you have recently had a heart attack (risk of arrhythmias)

- MAOIs (monoamine oxidase inhibitors), such as antidepressants (tranylcypromine, phenelzine, and isocarboxazid) or medicines for Parkinson's disease (selegiline) or you have taken any of these drugs during the past two weeks
- Other antidepressants, such as Tricyclic antidepressants (amitriptyline) or SSRIs (fluoxetine),

- Drugs to treat high blood pressure, such as clonidine

- Drugs for the treatment of infections with the AIDS virus (ritonavir, indinavir)
- Erythromycin, an antibiotic often used
- Levodopa, a drug for Parkinson's disease

Use of anesthetics:

Use with food and beverages

How to use trazodone

Rare: affect 1 out of 1.000-10.000 patients

Immediately discontinue treatment and contact your doctor or go to the nearest hospital if you notice:

- Urticaria and itchy skin, swelling of hands, feet, ankles, face, lips and throat which may cause difficulty in swallowing or breathing (angioedema). You may be having an allergic reaction to this drug.
- spontaneous, painful, persistent erection of the penis (priapism), unrelated to sexual arousal
- Yellowing of the eyes or skin (jaundice), which could be due to a liver disorder
- To suffer from infections more easily and frequently than previously which could be due to an alteration of the blood (agranulocytosis)
- Having bruise more easily than normal; This could be due to a blood disorder (thrombocytopenia)

- Feeling more anxious or more nervous than usual, agitation

- Having nightmares
- Lack or reduction of sexual desire

- Elevated blood pressure
- Fever

- Slurred speech
- Altered blood tests: Elevated white blood cells, decreased white blood cell, red blood cell, and platelet count, elevated liver enzymes
- Feeling tired, weak and confused, with sore muscles, stiff or does not function normally, headache, loss of appetite, nausea or vomiting and convulsions. These manifestations may be due to low blood sodium.
