The active ingredient trimebutine is a modulator of gastrointestinal motility with spasmolytic properties, without depressing normal peristalsis of the digestive system. Also, corrects abnormal motility associated with gastrointestinal pain or pain of biliary origin. This medicine promotes stomach emptying, counteracts nausea and vomiting and reduces the contractility of the colon
Trimebutine is indicated for the symptomatic control of the following gastrointestinal motility disorders:
- Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and secondary throat discomfort,
- Functional non-ulcer dyspepsia , as the symptomatic treatment of abdominal pain and intestinal transit disorders associated with functional disorders of the digestive tract . This includes bloating, slow digestion, stomach pain, nausea and vomiting, heartburn, acid regurgitation, and belching.
- Aches and cramps caused by gastrointestinal spasms,
- Pain and bloating associated with functional bowel disorders, including irritable bowel syndrome (IBS),
- Postoperative intestinal paralysis (postoperative ileus),
- Preparation for diagnostic procedures (radiological and endoscopic) .
The solution for injection is indicated in the pains of digestive or biliary diseases, and patient preparation for radiological and endoscopic examinations.
This medicine should not be used to treat infant colic.

Capsules:
Each capsule contains 200 mg of trimebutine maleate equivalent to 154 mg trimebutine. Excipients can include soybean oil, soy lecithin, hydrogenated vegetable oil, gelatin, glycerol, propylparaben, methylparaben, titanium dioxide, and purified water.
Tablets:
Each tablet contains 100 or 200 mg of trimebutine maleate. The excipients may include microcrystalline cellulose, lactose monohydrate, maize starch, povidone, and starch glycolate
Prolonged-release tablets:
In addition to 300 mg trimebutine maleate, excipients may include Methocel E 15 K 100 methocel, lactose, microcrystalline cellulose, povidone, magnesium stearate, and quinoline yellow.
Injectable solution:
In addition to 10 mg/ml trimebutine maleate, excipients include sodium chloride, benzyl alcohol, and water for injections
Powder/granules for oral suspension
In addition to trimebutine maleate at different concentrations, these presentations may contain polysorbate 80, natural aroma of orange (orange essential oil, Arabic gum), orange sunset dye and sucrose

Injectable solution:
This product contains 5 mg/ml benzyl alcohol. It can cause toxic reactions and anaphylactoid reactions in infants and children up to 3 years.
This medicine contains 3.85 mmol sodium per dose, which should be considered in patients with reduced sodium diets (salt)
Powder/granules for oral suspension:
The sucrose content should be considered in patients following a low-sugar diet or diabetes. Use of this medicine is not recommended in patients with fructose intolerance, glucose-galactose malabsorption or sucrase/isomaltase deficiency (a rare hereditary disease).
This medicine contains yellow-orange dye (yellow sunset, E-110), which may cause allergic reactions. It can cause asthma, especially in patients with allergy to aspirin.
Capsules:
This medicine may contain soybean oil, which should not be used in patients with allergy to soy.
This medicine may cause allergic reactions (possibly delayed) because it contains methyl and propyl parabens.
Tablets (including retard tablets):
This medicine contains lactose. If your doctor has told you that you have an intolerance to certain sugars, consult him before taking it.
This medicine may contain wheat starch, which is suitable for patients with celiac disease, but should not be used in patients with allergy to wheat (a different disorder than celiac disease).
Do not use trimebutine
If you are allergic (hypersensitive) to trimebutine or any of the other ingredients of the medicinal product prescribed to you. If you think may be allergic, ask your doctor.
Allergy symptoms may include:

Granules/powder for oral suspension
Adults:
The usual dose is 200 to 600 mg a day, divided into 3 doses.
Children:
6-12 mg/kg/day divided into 3 doses.
It is advisable to take the suspension 20 minutes before each main meal.
The maximum individual dose is 200 mg (15 ml).
Injectable solution
This medicine can be administered intramuscularly or intravenously slowly (3-5 minutes) or IV infusion diluted in saline or glucose solution.
Preparation for endoscopy or radiology: 50-100 mg daily, i.m. before the procedure.
In gastrointestinal or biliary painful processes, an injection of trimebutine (50 mg in 5 ml) will be administered during the acute phase, continuing with the drug orally.
Tablets/capsules:
Adults:
The usual dose ranges from 300 to 600 mg per day, divided into two or three doses before meals. The maximum dose is 600 mg a day.
Do not crush or chew the tablets or capsules. Swallow the tablet or capsule with the help of a little water or other nonalcoholic liquid.
Duration of treatment:
The doctor will recommend a limited duration of treatment, usually not exceeding 30 days. The minimum duration of treatment is usually 20 days
